The Botanist

Made on Islay by the Bruichladdich Distillery, a whopping 31 botanicals go into The Botanist, 22 of which are foraged and native to Islay. The 31 botanicals don’t fight each other and create a delicious harmonious flavour.

BRUICHLADDICH


Currently one of the most talked about Scotch brands around, Bruichladdich (which is is Gaelic for ‘Shore Bank’) hails from the island of Islay, and is best known for its progressive approach to whisky-making, producing not only peated whisky but an unpeated version, a super peated whisky and a gin.

Looking for a great, sessionable everyday dram that is also rich and complex at the same time? Immediately recognisable thanks to its iconic turquoise blue bottle, the Classic Laddie is the unpeated expression in Bruichladdich’s core range, made with 100% Scottish Barley and aged in American Oak casks.

Nose: The sea air freshness is quick on the nose before moving to golden oats and barley and soft honey.
Palate: The fresh coastal flavour is also apparent on the palate with a hint of smoke.
Finish: Long, light finish of toffee and honey.

Port Charlotte 10YO

Port Charlotte 10 Year Old is the peaty star from Bruichladdich’s core range, aged for 10 years bottled at 50% abv and made from 100% Scottish barley. The whisky is matured in first-fill ex-bourbon, second-fill ex-bourbon and second-fill French wine casks matured alongside the sea, which adds a touch of the maritime to the spirit.

Nose: The maritime element helps with the big smoke, adding balance and harmony to the oak, smoke and spirit.
Palate: A plethora of flavours, ranging from baked desserts and woody spices to light citrus and saltiness.
Finish: Long and lingering, with smoke that comes and goes, mixed with fruit and oak.

MOUNT GAY RUM


Mount Gay is recognised as the oldest commercial rum producer in Barbados, with a history going back to 1703. The distillery uses a combination of pot and column still rums in their blends., making for a complex yet versatile rum that is also a staple in many bars.

Both Mount Gay Real Deals feature the Mount Gay Black Barrel and Mount Gay XO Triple Cask, and each comes with a quad pack of East Imperial Kima Kola.

Mount Gay Black Barrel

An exceptional blend of rums that are first aged between 3 and 7 years, and then spend another 6 months in the heavily charred ex-bourbon barrels, hence the name ‘black barrel’. Great neat or in a punch!

Nose: Woody, with creamy butter but is balanced with dried fruit and spice.
Palate: Big with orange oil, earthy spice and vanilla. The char of the barrel adds a gorgeous toasted flavour.
Finish: Touches of spice and light citrus.

Mount Gay XO Triple Cask

A relatively newer version of Mount Gay’s XO, using older rums, a bit more pot still rum in the blend, and aged between 5-17 years in American Whiskey, Bourbon and Cognac casks. The results are a touch drier and more complex than the previous reiteration, making for a rum that was made for sipping or even in a stirred drink.

Nose: The wood influences result in aromas of vanilla oak and cinnamon spice.
Palate: Caramel, figs and chocolate, with faint salt notes.
Finish: Rich and long, which dries out beautifully.

REMY MARTIN COGNAC


Remy Martin is one of the most famous Cognac houses in the world. It specialises in Fine Champagne Cognacs, which only use eau-de-vie made with grapes harvested from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus in the Grande Champagne region in Cognac.

Remy Martin VSOP

VSOP or Very Special Old Pale means the youngest brandies in the blend has to be at least 4 years old, and Remy uses brandies from 4 to 14 years old for their signature VSOP. Highly versatile, you can enjoy this neat, on the rocks, or with ginger ale.

Nose: Luscious ripe and baked stone fruit, apples and a light floral note on the end.
Palate: A rich and elegant flavour of baking spices, dried fruit and ginger and a touch of liquorice.
