We tend to get quite excited whenever we have a new whisky to recommend, and this month’s May Real Deal whisky is no exception.
Macintosh is an honest to goodness blended malt Scotch that is all whisky and no baloney, one that is perfect for sipping AND mixing. You don’t get many whiskies like that, to be honest.
Mackintosh is part of our May Real Deals, alongside highly sought-after Australian gins Four Pillars. shop now at shop.whollyspiritsasia.com. You can choose between a single bottle or a twin pack of Mackintosh.
Need more convincing? Well, here are five things you should know about Mackintosh whisky!
1) Mackintosh is a blended malt
If you’re a regular Scotch drinker, you’ll know that a single malt consists of malt whisky from just one distillery, while a blended Scotch is a blend of malt and grain whisky. (There’s also single grain and blended grain whisky, but those are relatively uncommon).
Blended malt, on the other hand is a whisky that is a blend of just malt whiskies from two or more DIFFERENT distilleries, with no grain whiskies added in, unlike blended whisky.
Mackintosh is a blend of single malt whiskies from the Highland and Speyside regions of Scotland, with no added grain whiskies, which makes it a blended malt.
2) All whisky, no baloney
All the whiskies used in the Mackintosh blend are no younger than 7 years old, and aged in a mix of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks. It has no added caramel colouring, and is also non-chill filtered, which makes it as authentic a Scotch as you can get.

3) Brought to you by True Believers
Mackintosh is part of Proof & Company’s True Believers core range, a range of spirits that aims to make craft-quality spirits as accessible as possible.
The other spirits in the range currently available in Malaysia are Widges London Dry Gin, Tried & True Straight Wheat Vodka, and Arquitecto Tequila, all highly sought after spirits that are used in used in numerous bars across Asia, including top Malaysian bars such as Bar Trigona, Three X Co , Coley, and JungleBird
4) It’s great for sipping
According to our resident taste gurus, this is a whisky that is great for sipping neat, on the rocks, with mixers, or in a cocktail. In other words, a real well-rounder of a whisky.
On the nose, it is initially light and fresh, with hints of cut grass and malt. On the palate, this whisky really shows its chops. Broad and pleasingly oily, you can tell this has been designed to stand up against mixers if it needs to. It also finishes well with honey, soft vanilla and dried fruits lingering. The sherry influence is there, but it’s subtle.
5) It’s great in cocktails too!
While there are many classic Scotch whisky cocktails out there, not all Scotch whiskies can hold their own against other flavours and ingredients. Happily, Mackintosh is one of the rare exceptions to the rule, able to hold its own not just in simple highballs, but also against more complex drinks with bolder flavours.
We tried it in a whisky sour, and the oilier mouthfeel of the whisky really stands up well against the sour element. In a whisky highball, on the other hand, the sweeter honey notes of the Mackintosh are highlighted, while in a Rob Roy, the subtle sherriness and hints of smoke nicely form a nice balance with the sweet vermouth and bitters.
Besides Mackintosh, our May promo also features the acclaimed and highly sought after Australian gin Four Pillars, now available together with East Imperial mixers for a Real Deal price that is a real steal!
If you’re a fan, you’ll know that these sell out pretty quickly, so this is one Real Deal that you can’t afford to ignore that FOMO feeling inside you!
