Auchentoshan

Established in 1823, Auchentoshan is one of the few Lowland distilleries left standing, and still retains all its traditional production methods, including its unique Triple Distillation process.

Lowland whiskies are well-known for a light, approachable style that is great as an everyday dram or for a special occasion.

This month’s Real Deal features the Auchentoshan 12 Year Old and the hugely popular Three Wood. You can choose between single bottles, or a Mixed Twin Pack!

Auchentoshan Three Wood

This Lowland malt from Glasgow has spent a fair few years in oak, and not just one, but 3 types of wood.

The majority of the time is spent in ex-Bourbon Barrels (up to 10 years), then it is finished in Oloroso for 2 years, and finally, another 2 in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks.

On the nose, berry fruit, plums, brown sugar and orange. The palate brings forth the nuttier and fruitier notes of the sherries, dark ripe rich fruit and woody spice. The finish is long, fresh, fruity and sweet. Great on its own but versatile in cocktails.

Auchentoshan 12YO

Launched in 2011 to replace the 10 year old in Auchentoshen’s core range, this triple-distilled Lowland malt is triple distilled and matured in ex bourbon barrels and sherry casks.

Distinctive aroma of creme brulee on the nose with a burst of citrus, and then the signature nuttiness and green leafiness. The palate has sweet notes along with hints of tangerine and lime. The finish offers a gingery and slightly dry finish with a pleasant, lingering nuttiness.

Great neat but also can be used in cocktails.

Isle Of Harris

Isle Of Harris Gin

The award-winning Isle Of Harris Gin from Scotland is one gin that truly takes the term ‘ultra-premium gin” to another level. Instantly recognisable by its beautifully iconic glass bottle, Isle Of Harris Gin is entirely handmade on Scotland’s Isle Of Harris.

The gin uses 9 premium botanicals, including key botanical Sugar Kelp, a seaweed gathered sustainably by hand from local sea-lochs, which gives the gin a complex, maritime flavour. Isle Of Harris Gin only uses the heart of every spirit run, ensuring that only the best spirit goes into the bottle.

The bottle itself is really something else. The distillery worked with acclaimed drinks packaging designers Stranger & Stranger to create a bottle that is a true work of art, influenced by the people of the island, the rugged, dramatic location, the tweed, and reflecting the subtle colours of the landscape.

You can get the The Isle Of Harris Real Deal in a a single bottle gift box, or the Highball Gift Box which comes with two FREE highball glasses.

On the nose – Well-defined juniper note with pine needles, immediately followed by the fresh citrus notes of bitter orange, lime and grapefruit. Develops a complex floral note of rose and wallflowers with crushed green herbs, coriander and gooseberry all underpinned by mixed spice. Sugar Kelp adds to the complexity and richness and gives a dry maritime note.

On the palate – refreshing, with good balance between the bitter juniper and pine and the sweet fruit flavours of mango, grapefruit and orange. A green herb flavour of crushed coriander develops. Distinctive and smooth with a dry, flinty taste. Overall a long, clean finish. As the juniper and citrus fade away, sweet vanilla and black pepper remain with a gentle reminder of the sea.
